Founded in 1997, American University of Sharjah (AUS) is an independent, non-profit, coeducational institution of higher education formed on the American liberal arts model. Acclaimed for its academic excellence and multicultural environment, AUS is ranked among the top 10 universities in the Arab world and the world’s top 50 universities under 50 years of age (QS World University Rankings, 2021). With approximately 90 nationalities represented on campus, AUS is among the world’s top three universities with the highest percentage of international students (Times Higher Education, 2021).
AUS offers 28 majors and 45 minors at the undergraduate level, 16 master’s degrees and three PhD programs through the College of Architecture, Art and Design; the College of Arts and Sciences; the College of Engineering; and the School of Business Administration. All programs are conducted in English. The university’s 123-hectare, full-service campus includes experiential learning and research facilities, sports and recreational facilities, and student and faculty accommodation. AUS students enjoy a wide range of extracurricular activities and competitive sports, and have opportunities to apply their learning through internships, research, conferences, competitions and professional collaborations. AUS graduates consistently secure roles with leading regional and international employers and many pursue graduate studies at the world’s top institutions.
