External enrichment and guidance services can add real value when used thoughtfully and at the right time. The questions below can help families decide whether additional support may be appropriate.
Consider External Support If:
- Your child is applying to a highly competitive course or university
- Applications are to a country that requires external services e.g. Australia
- A specific admissions test is required e.g. European medical entrance exams
- Your child would benefit from additional one-to-one guidance, in addition to support in place at their school
- Specialist knowledge or experience is needed
- You are looking for a particular work experience or internship placement
Pause and Speak to School First If:
- You are unsure what support is actually needed
- Decisions are being made very early or under pressure
- Support risks duplicating existing in-school guidance
- Workload, wellbeing or balance may be affected
The school’s Careers & University Guidance team should always be your first point of contact.
